A recent analysis of data concluded that New Jersey drivers are among the worst in the nation.
In the study, New Jersey’s drivers ranked as the fourth worst among all the states in the country. New Jersey fared very poorly when compared with its regional neighbors, coming in as the worst in the Beltway.
Some might question the study’s methodology, since it is hard to define exactly what make for a bad driver. The study itself consider a driver’s accident record, as well as speeding tickets, drunk or drugged driving charges, and other traffic citations for other poor driving habits, like texting and driving or trying to beat a red light.
Interestingly, New Jersey did not rank in the top 5 in one of these categories.
Apparently, New Jersey’s drivers just have a combination of accidents and tickets that, according to the study, make it particularly risky to go out onto the roads of this state.
Bad driving habits can cause serious injuries and fatalities
One thing this study did not consider was how serious these accidents and traffic violations were. Thankfully, in most cases, the worst outcome was a car accident that left property damaged.
Sadly, though, too many motor vehicle accidents leave one or more people with serious injuries. Oftentimes, these injuries or fatal or they leave a person suffering with a permanent disability like paralysis or life-altering brain damage.
These accidents are in the vast majority of cases preventable. They happen precisely because a driver engages in bad habits like speeding or distracted driving. Sometimes, a driver does something downright reckless, like get behind the wheel while intoxicated.
In these cases, victims are legally entitled to receive compensation for their losses.
